How Is Forgery Actually Detected?
The examiner's toolkit against each fraud type:
- Signatures: comparison against adequate genuine specimens: rhythm, pressure, tremor and construction beat superficial shape-matching
- Backdating: era-inconsistency hunting: stamp paper series, printing technology, ink ageing indicators and content anachronisms
- Alterations: light and spectral examination exposing overwriting, erasures and added lines invisible to the eye
- Assembly fraud: staple and fold analysis, page substitutions and font mismatches in 'continuous' documents
What Makes Expert Evidence Persuasive?
Specimens and reasoning: opinions are only as strong as the genuine comparison material (contemporaneous, plentiful and natural) and only as credible as the demonstrable logic connecting observation to conclusion.
